Weather Tarot: How will Typhoon Bolaven go?

As some of you may know, a Typhoon Bolaven has reached Japan today and will reach the mainland of Korea tomorrow morning (about 12 hours from now). So I have asked my tarot cards: How will this typhoon go?

The cards I dealt using the classic Rider-Waite are:

That is: 9 of Wands, 4 of Pentacles Reversed, 9 of Cups Reversed.

So for any fellow readers out there or even the complete novices, feel free to make a comment and give your own interpretation as to what you think these cards are saying!

  1. I no expert but…9 can mean 9 days 9 hours 9 minutes…
2 reversed cards… I don’t know why I never like reverse cards, I think is not good.

  2. I believe the 9 of Wands is representing a big struggle ahead. The 9 of Wands usually tells us to be prepared for whatever is coming. The 4 of Pentacles (reversed) usually means that something we’ve been holding onto too tightly (money/physical possessions) will slip through our fingers. I’m hoping that the 4 of Pentacles (reversed) isn’t saying that the storm is going to wash people’s belongings right out from beneath them. Normally, the 9 of Cups is a great card to draw, indicating that an emotional desire will become fulfilled. However, in it’s reversed position, this card predicts loss, disappointment, overindulgence, etc. I pray for the well being of those across the seas. I’d love to hear your interpretation of this reading Lotus! Best wishes. ^_^

  3. This was my initial reaction seeing these cards:

The 9 of Wands is saying “be prepared”, but I feel like this is calling to be prepared on more levels than just the physical of taping windows, buying extra food, etc. etc. The 9 of Wands has an aspect of “be prepared by balancing your mind, body, and soul”. So I felt it as if “be physically prepared, but also be sure to have faith that everything will be okay so you are balanced emotionally and spiritually as well”.

The 4 of Pentacles Reversed — upright, it often means that we are holding on to physical possessions too tightly as if we can’t have any security in life without them. When it is reversed, however, its as if those physical possessions are now being forcefully taken away by the universe… in its own unique way to help us grow and learn. Which, realistically — isn’t the energy of the 4 of Pentacles Reversed what all natural disasters do to some degree?

The 9 of Cups Reversed is an interesting one and I’ve mostly learned the meaning of this card when it is reversed just from experience rather than by looking it up in any book. Upright, the 9 of Cups says “Your wishes are fulfilled”. The irony is that, from what I’ve seen, the 9 of Cups even when reversed says “Your wishes are fulfilled” but the difference is that you may not necessarily interpret it as being a wish fulfilled. It’s like there is a lack of gratitude for the Divine there by not really counting blessings.

So, to translate that all into English — to me, the cards are saying for those who are involved to be prepared and find inner balance and faith that everything will be okay. Some materials will be damaged, but it won’t be to the extreme that will cause significant casualties or most people to lose homes. However, people’s reaction will naturally be looking at the misfortunes of material damage rather than to fully appreciate that people are still living. The damage will be enough that it just makes repairs a bit of a “pain in the neck”, so to speak rather than a significant “tragedy”.
